I'm Rusty,  a conceptual photographer and visual alchemist who lives and works in North Carolina, US. My work is multi layered photographic illustration often classified as Magic Realism and Imaginary Realism, steeped in esotericism and symbolism. I've spent the last 15 years crafting and developing a meticulous process that transmutes photography, and digital painting techniques, such as brushwork, texturizing, layering and compositing, with digitally painted backgrounds, intricately placed real photographic elements and intuition, a kind of visual alchemy. The results have been described as atmospheric images, elusively romantic and timeless in their historical placement, painterly yet subtle, imbued with a slight wink towards old master art. I'm a lifelong study of mythology, ancient storytelling and the world's mysteries, all of which can be found within my work. A few of my influences are esoteric traditions, late and classical antiquity. metaphysics, literature, elemental and spirituality. When I'm not making Art, I can be found working with my family on our 118 year old Victorian Farmhouse, along with it's english garden, all of which are a source of much joy and inspiration for me.
 

My work has been exhibited in many galleries in the US and internationally. Recently exhibits include the theArter galerie in Berlin alongside the works of artists such as HR Giger and The Dallas Bath House's "The Extraordinary Tale - Magic Realism in Art".  I've been published both nationally and internationally, with my work featured in numerous magazines as well as on books and album covers. I'm an artist with a passion for the artist/artist collaboration, which most recently resulted in the collaborative album "The Absolute Elsewhere" by Crystal Bright. My images and back stories served as inspiration for each song on the album and I can be heard as a backup vocalist as well. Among other projects, I'm currently working on the creation of a Tarot titled "Tarot de Profundis".
